Assistant Director, Vienna Jammers

The Vienna Jammers is a Percussion Ensemble with more than 130 children ranging in age from 8-18 years old from the Vienna, VA area.

Our mission is: To educate youth through unique percussion programs; provide a dynamic and diverse experience in the performing arts; nurture the creativity of each child, and enrich lives within the community.
Locally renowned, the award-winning organization has played to thousands of people at events including the Lincoln Memorial Music at the Monument series, ViVa Vienna!, Wolf Trap Let’s Move with Music Festival, and Vienna Halloween Parade. The Jammers also travel outside the geographical area when the opportunities arise. Examples include the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and in a joint concert with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Steel Drum Band.

Members of the ensembles use a combination of traditional and non-traditional instruments, including marimbas, hand drums, trash cans, and any other object they can hit! There are seven separate ensembles grouped by age and rehearsal frequency. The steel pans are the primary ensemble for our teenaged Jammers.

We are seeking an Assistant Director to join our Jammers team. Our new Assistant Director will have the following responsibilities:

Work closely with our Executive director to organize and run weekly Jammers rehearsals and frequent community Jammers performances

Personally direct rehearsals with all of our Jammers ensembles

Perform with all of our Jammers ensembles on mallets, world percussion, drum set and steel drums

Compose and arrange music for each Jammers ensemble
Candidates must have the following requirements:

Music Education or Performance major from a 4 year University/School of Music in the area of Percussion (currently enrolled or graduate of
-
Experience performing and educating on mallet percussion instruments, world percussion instruments, drum set and steel drums
Helpful to have the following skills:

Experience with Music Technology Software (IE: Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X) and ability to facilitate set-up, capture, and delivery of live audio and video content

Ability to compose and arrange music for diatonic marimba and steel pan

Monday 6:45-9 pm
Tues-Thurs 4:20-6:20 pm
Hours per week: 10*
*hours Planning, arranging, camps and gigs not included in this total

Pay: starting at $1,000/month
